Welcome to Barriere


The District of Barriere is located 66 kilometers North of the larger city of Kamloops on Highway 5.  It is nestled in the North Thompson Valley surrounded by the Barriere and North Thompson Rivers.

Barriere became one of BC's newest municipalities on December 4, 2007.  Currently elected are Mayor Ward Stamer, Councillors Judy Armstrong, Al Fortin Scott Kershaw, Rob Kerslake, Donna Kibble and Amanda Sabyan.

Barriere is partially driven by the forest industry however the other industries which serve the town are tourism and agriculture, primarily alfalfa. Mining development is on the increase in the North Thompson Valley, and it is predicted that many forestry workers will transfer from forestry to mining as these new development begin production.  New businesses are starting to migrate to Barriere as our town grows with independent and sustainable resources.

Barriere is a beautiful place to raise your family, start a business or retire in an affordable and safe community.  Abundant recreation is at your doorstep in a relaxing home-town atmosphere.  Just 45 minutes away is an an easy and scenic commute to Kamloops for work or to visit the hustle and bustle of the big city.
