Welcome to the District of Barriere

The District of Barriere is located 64 kilometers North of the larger city of Kamloops on Highway 5.  It is nestled in the North Thompson Valley surrounded by the Barriere and North Thompson Rivers.

Barriere became one of BC's newest municipalities on December 4, 2007.  Currently elected are
Mayor Ward Stamer, Councillors Judy Armstrong, Al Fortin, Scott Kershaw, Rob Kerslake, Donna Kibble, and Amanda Sabyan.

Barriere is largely driven by the forest industry however other industries, such as tourism and agriculture, primarily alfalfa, play a significant role as well. Due to the local mineral content of the area, mining exploration has taken place throughout the North Thompson Valley. Although no mines are currently operating at this time, should a large industry, such as a mine, locate in the valley it would bring economic diversification, year round employment and spin off services.  New businesses are starting to migrate to Barriere as our town grows with independent and sustainable resources.

Barriere is a beautiful place to raise your family, start a business or retire in an affordable and safe community.  Abundant recreation is at your doorstep in a relaxing home-town atmosphere.  Just 45 minutes away provides an easy and scenic commute to Kamloops for work or to visit the hustle and bustle of the big city.
